Plasma TV and LCD TV: Get the Most Out of HDTV

Most people do not know the real difference between a LCD TV and a Plasma TV. To know the difference you have to understand how each one of the TVs work.

When it comes to getting a high definition television most people usually choose between two types of televisions. They either search for a LCD TV or a Plasma TV. Most people do not know the real difference between a LCD TV and a Plasma TV. To know the difference you have to understand how each one of the TVs work.

The LCD TV uses liquid in the core to show you the image. This is why LCD TVs do not use that much energy. It is the same technology that has powered digital watches, clocks, calculators, and most other digital interface devices. You can tell that it is an LCD TV or device by applying a little pressure to the screen. It will distort the image as if the image was made out of a thick type of water.

The good thing about a LCD TV is that the picture can be outstanding and it can save you a few dollars on your bill. The bad thing is that the screen is fragile. If you have children in your house then they can run into the LCD TV by mistake and cause permanent damage to it. Another good thing is that a LCD TV does not give off that much radiation.

Plasma TVs on the other hand offer the best image quality. However, plasma TVs do not use liquid in their core. They utilize plasma in the core of the plasma TV to deliver the image to your eyes. This concept has been around longer then technology that built LCD TVs but the plasma TV is the first major commercial use for the public. The plasma that is in the plasma TV is not the same plasma in your blood. This plasma is the fourth state of matter. If you have a solid and then heat it up it will become a liquid. If you turn up the temperature eventually it will become a gas. Then if you increase the temperature to an extreme the gas becomes plasma. Now that you know how the plasma TV works you should understand that it uses more energy than the LCD TV and it gives off much more radiation. LCD TVs may get hot but plasma TVs reach much higher temperatures so the lifespan of a plasma TV is much shorter than a LCD TV. So basically you have to choose between quality or longevity when you consider buying your next HD TV.
